What are Lowes’ return policy?
Lowes carries items to help you improve your life and your home. If you are not completely satisfied with a product you purchased at Lowes, you may return it to any Lowes store in the United States. Knowing Lowes’s opening and closing hours will help you plan your visit efficiently.
Most unused, unworn products may be returned or exchanged with receipt within 90 days of the first date of purchase, with certain exceptions noted in the Lowes’ return policy exceptions.
You have 365 days from the date of purchase to return an item if it was purchased using a Lowe’s Commercial Account (LCA), Lowe’s Business Advantage (LBA), MyLowe’s Rewards Credit Card, Lowe’s Business Rewards (LBR), or Lowe’s PreLoad Plus Mastercard ®, unless otherwise specified in our Return Policy Exceptions. Refunds are contingent upon system approval.
Returns with valid proof of purchase will be subject to an exchange or refund to the original payment method, except as specified below:
Purchases are made with:
- Gift cards, cash back cards, merchandise cards or credit at Lowe’s stores or through Lowe’s branded stores on third-party marketplaces will be refunded as store credit.
- Checks will be refunded as store credit if within 3 days of purchase; If after 3 days, the purchase is refundable for cash or store credit as determined by the refund verification system. You will not receive a refund if you have an outstanding bad check with Lowe’s as determined by the check verification system.
- Lowe’s Pay will be credited back to the financial institution, which will handle the refund process directly with you. Purchases made using Lowe’s Pay cannot be refunded for cash and/or store credit and are not eligible for the Lowe’s Credit Card Return Policy extension.
MyLowe’s Money™ will be returned to the digital wallet.

No returns without proof of purchase
Lowe’s does not accept returns without valid proof of purchase.
- Lowes attempts to authenticate your purchases using the following methods: physical or electronic receipt, order number, payment card or digital wallet, phone number, Pro Rewards Account or Account MyLowe’s Rewards.
- Lowes’ uses a refund verification system, which may require a valid photo ID (state driver’s license, state ID card or military ID).

There are some exceptions to Lowes’ return policy
48-Hour Return Policy
- Returns must be made to Lowe’s within 48 hours of delivery or the time of pickup at a Lowe’s location.
- This applies to major appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, ranges, hoods, dishwashers, microwave ovens, cooktops, wall ovens, washer and dryer pedestals.
- Utility vehicles and golf carts – Must be returned to the Lowe’s store in the original condition of purchase along with the original paperwork including the title (if applicable).
- Paint sprayers
Exceptions:
- Items returned in original, unopened, undamaged packaging with factory seals can be returned within 30 days of purchase.
- Purchases made using a Lowe’s Commercial Account (LCA), Lowe’s Business Advantage (LBA), MyLowe’s Rewards credit card, Lowe’s Business Rewards (LBR), Lowe’s PreLoad Plus Mastercard®, Lowe’s Lease to Own (LTO) can be returned within 30 days of purchase.
30-Day Return Policy
- TVs and Electronics
- Outdoor power equipment (except for corded and cordless outdoor power equipment from CRAFTSMAN and BLACK+DECKER brands, which have a 90-day return policy)
Lawn mowers, chainsaws, generators, pressure washers, trimmers, blowers, snow throwers, log splitters, wood chippers, hedge trimmers, edgers, tillers, augurs, and brush cutters must be returned within 30 days of receipt of the product and must be unused and in original condition, including original, unopened, and undamaged packaging with factory seals.
- Water Heaters
- Air Conditioners (Portable and Window) and Evaporative Coolers
- Liquid Paint
Holiday Items:
- Only accepted for return on the specific holiday (e.g., Christmas Eve for Christmas).
- No returns for holiday items bought after the holiday.
Non-refundable Items:
- Fees like labor, installation, delivery, and shipping (unless Lowe’s messed up).
- In-store credits, gift cards (including Lowe’s, other brands, Visa/Mastercard).
- Masks (safety or facial coverings).
- Large items like trailers.
- “As-is” merchandise (discounted, imperfect items).
Special Order Fees:
- A 20% fee applies to special orders canceled or returned over 72 hours after purchase.
- Applies to installed items too, unless your contract says otherwise.
Plants:
- Trees, shrubs, and perennials: one year return window with receipt.
- Other plants: 90-day return window.
Hazardous Materials:
- Can’t be returned by mail due to safety reasons (flammables, etc.).
- Return them to your local Lowe’s store.
- This also applies to items with lithium batteries.
Lowe’s Outlet Return Policy
- Generally, all sales are final at Lowe’s Outlets (may have cosmetic damage or returns).
- Inspect items carefully before buying.
- Outlet returns must go back to the same Outlet store, not a regular Lowe’s or another Outlet.
- Regular Lowe’s purchases cannot be returned to Outlets.
- Need a receipt for returns at Outlets.
What Lowe’s Outlets Accept for Returns:
- Only items with mechanical or electrical issues within 48 hours of purchase.
- No returns for cosmetic damage or issues that happened after you bought the item.
